I didn’t have much problems with this mouse, other than the laser motion detecter was on the left side rather than the right side, so for a righty it would not respond if you tilted it outwards. Other than that I have no complaints.
This VX Nano Laser Mouse works quite well. The mouse itself is a mid-size mouse and not “Nano” itself, which makes it more user friendly. It also has rubberized side grips which aid in its handling. Included with the mouse is a connection receiver for a desktop, a nice bonus. I use this for my Toshiba laptop for which it is perfect. It has a small receiver that you can plug into your USB port and leave it here, even when transporting the computer. If you wish you may possibly remove the receiver and it store it out of the way and safe inside the mouse itself; the engineers paid attention to details on this one. Two standard AAA batteries power the mouse and it has an on/off thrash that I am hoping will extend the life of the batteries. Batteries were included! The mouse also comes with a nice carry bag to protect it while in your case for transportation, or to just protect it free of dust when not in use.
It was very straightforward to install and works fantastic right out of the box. The toughest part about installation is getting the mouse itself out of the packaging. I found the tracking and scrolling perfect. At a press of a button you can go from scroll to hyper-scroll on the mouse wheel. Plus I found the mouse speed was perfect for my use as delivered. I have limited mobility and was capable to use this straightforwardly. And it seems that the mouse does not need direct line of site to the receiver in order to work. It works well without a mouse pad, which was very vital to me since I had to test it in bed. I had the computer on the hospital table and the mouse on the bed. The next day I downloaded the software that it comes with and it allows use to increase the utility of the mouse by giving you access to advanced features. I found the additional functionality to be very helpful. Including Internet search at a get behind of a button. I also appreciate the battery indicator for the mouse, so you do not have to guess when your batteries should be replaced. My computer gains access to the Internet by WiFi and may be the reason it took several minutes for me to download the software. But you single need to do this once, and single if you wish to use the advanced features of your mouse.
This is the standard high feature Logitech mouse technology we have be converted into use too. This has now be converted into my permanent laptop mouse and my sister saw it and is buying one for her laptop. I am really pleased to have this mouse, it makes using my laptop so much simpler and therefore enjoyable. Highly recommended.
The Nano Mouse is a cousin to Logitech’s regular sized VX model. In size it’s about ½ inch smaller than the VX, and a bit thinner. It fit my mom-sized hand nicely, and my husband hasn’t complained, but I rather imagine that it may possibly be too small for someone with really generous hands.
The other shape-and-size element I noticed is that the mouse is symmetrical which means theoretically that it has no inherent lefties or righties bias. The theory falls apart somewhat as here are two programmable buttons on the far left side of the mouse: Logitech calls these Thumb In trade and Thumb Forward buttons. I found them trying sufficient to use as a rightie, I can single imagine it would be more trying for a leftie.
The package includes a carrying case, batteries (the ones in the box were dead) and Windows-ONLY software. I tested the mouse on my MacBook and an ACER laptop. The mouse did work right out of the box on the Mac (once fresh batteries were inserted), but without the ‘unique features’. To get those to work you need to go to the Logitech site. The file you need is icc222.dmg – a quick download.
The key element is the minuscule RF dongle that goes in a USB port. [Bluetooth afficiandos are just going to have to wait.] It’s so small that you hardly need to remove it, unless you use a very small tote. If you do aspire to remove it, here is a well-located storage area inside the mouse.
REGULAR FEATURES:
Left and Right Buttons: can be set for 1, 2, and 3 clicks as well as click-lock and right click single.
The Scroll Wheel lets you adjust increment and acceleration. Typically a small movement is one line, a huge one 5 or more lines (varies, of course, with what Application you are using).
Here is also an extension ‘thingie’ for those looking to use it with a huge box machine.
COOL FEATURES:
The Scroll wheel lets you go left and right. That’s right you can now nudge the pointer over. How cool is that.
One-Upset search: Behind the scroll wheel here is a button with a magnifying dinghy on it. You can program that button to load up a search function such as Yahoo, Google, Finder, Sherlock, or even a custom URL.
The Thumb Forward/In trade buttons can be programmed to do innumerable tasks. Here are more options available on the Windows menu as compared to the bare listing for Apple machines.
PROBLEMS:
–The BIGGEST problem is that the dang mouse software locked up my MacBook. It is really trying to do on a Mac so I can single conclude that Logitech thought of Apple as an afterthought. Boo-hiss.
–The above attitude is supported by the second annoyance which is that they didn’t include the Apple software on the disk.
–The ‘nudge’ feature does not work in Open Office (on the Mac) – sigh – although it does work in Adobe. [Note: this feature worked with everything I tried on my Acer.]
–They also may possibly have, for symmetries sake, included another set of programmable buttons on the right hand side of the mouse for lefties.
WINDOWS/INTEL RATING:
Four Stars [B+]. This is a nice sized mouse with some cool features. The software is a modest gradual installing but partially that was because the installer found an upgrade to download. I would certainly consider buying this mouse for my Acer laptop. The Zoom programmability and other programmable features work in Open Office, MSWord and Adobe and would make my life simpler.
MAC RATING:
Two Stars. [D+] The Nano is a nice mouse but it wasn’t designed with an Apple user in mind. The software had to be downloaded from the Logitech site and even then the presentation was second-rate to that existing for Windows. Some features like Zoom are not available to us -period.
So, although the Nano has some cool, advanced ‘programmable’ features, I can’t say that I’d recommend it to Mac users. That is, unless you are one of those vigilant sorts that can manage to remember not to let your computer go to sleep without turning off the mouse. Otherwise, it is going to trash your kernel. And I can’t start to tell you how annoying that was.

The first mouse I expected was terrible, new mouse works fantastic, all features work, Front and in trade button in weird house but ok.
Yes, I reckon this is the product of the last decade because;
- It works all the time. It does what is vital.
- The range is fantastic. You can use mouse anywhere in the household/office where you can see the watch. 2.4Ghz.
- I have been using this item for 10 months without any problems. Battery life is fantastic too.
- The receiver is so small that you don’t need to worry about it when you go your laptop. You can’t accidentally break it.
I wish that LOGITECH produces a similar NANO receiver KEYBOARD, too.
