Yet, there are a couple of disadvantages in this compiled DVD recorder. One of them is that you are not able to record, or even playback on DVD+RW/R discs, which are featured on other DVD recorders, or even the hard to find compatible DVD-RAM discs, which are most found within Panasonic DVD recorders. The second disadvantage is that you'd have to use the 2X speed DVD-RW discs to rewrite on these players. Nothing in the user manual states this, it took me over an hour of hold time and 4 tech's to finally get this answer. If you are purchasing this player to imitation ancient home videos to DVD-R for family and friends, protect looking. DVD-R media recoded on this Sylvania can single be played in trade on this player/recorder. Other recorders such as Sony’s produce DVD-R recordings that can be played virtually on any other DVD player. The other great feature of this product is that it allows up to 10 hours of record time. I previously owned a cyeberhome product similar to this but was frustrated with the complicated operation and cheap quality. I highly recomend this dvd recorder for its ease of use. I had a Bruce Lee special that was recorded in my Tivo but when I sat through the 2 hour program, the disc just showed a blank page. Or maybe I am doing something wrong. I am not totally computer illiterate and the instructions seemed easy enough to understand but I must return it since it appears to be of no value to me. Unfortunately this product will not record many shows played on cable or satellite, probably because of some security or privacy protection technology.
