Now, I like Altec Lansing. But, and I’m not sure how your computer is handling these, these never played in 5.1 for me. And yes… I went through all the settings and connections and called tech support. It just fought with my computer from day one. The instructions wouldn’t be excellent for a beginning computer user… or even one that had never really messed with the sound controls before to. After a two living of using these they ongoing overloading my usb port when plugged in. I reckon the thought of these is perfect for a laptop… no very well executed. I finished up returning these.
I just recieived this system and have spent hours trying to set it up with my Sounblaster X-Fi Sound Card. The color codes did not match the card and I had to experiment to find the right ports. The instruction which came with this system are dreadful, and the print is so small it can hardly be read. It has TWO remotes, one wired and one wireless. Why anyone would promote a system with two remotes is beyond me. I reckon this system is better than the sound I am gettng from it right now, and I will protect experimenting until I get it tweaked just right. The system comes with no software, butI am going to try the Altec Lansing Site to see if I can find better and more complete information than came in the package. I added this speaker system to a State-Of-The-Art computer running Vista Ultimate 64. It should be out of the box and installed to it’s fullest capacity in less than an hour, but, after two living, I am still working on the installation to try to get everything right.
I just bought these speakers. I’m a musician and found this system to be very excellent. The sounds are lifelike, and the songs nearly sound as if they’re being played live. Here is a slight hissing sound, but other sounds in the room (a/c, computer, etc.) make it hardly noticeable. You can just turn the speakers off when not using them. My soundcard does not support 5.1, but these work under the 2/4 setting for mp3s. I have yet to try them with a right surround sound file, which should work as 5.1. Fantastic with acoustic, techno, alternative, pop… all different genres have sounded fantastic. Bass is right. This company makes feature products without a huge price tag, and the sale price is even better. I highly recommend.
Rossini’s William Tell Overture sounds fantastic. But, I did have some problem completing my installation. Protect in mind that I live in central Texas. Sixty miles in any direction to find an electronics store. Two of the cables were missing, “Surond” and “Cilife”, also the lithlgm cell “CR2025″ was dead. As a result, the installation did not occur immediately. Now, using Cool Edit Pro and one terabyte of wave files, I can approach the sound feature of the Altec Voice of the Theater in the family room.
If you have a laptop these are the speakers to get. They are straightforward to hook up, and the feature is really excellent. Aztec Lansing is the same company that produces the speakers for all HP laptops, and they do a brilliant job here as well. I recommend these speakers compared to the logitech speakers especially for any laptop user.
